Seachange installed – mirrored triangles suspended from netting filling the space
This is a response to communication, linking past technologies and traditional industries that have taken place at Brean and the surrounding area.
Seachange offers a moment of self reflection that is all too fleeting: a reflection on the environment and our impact on it and how this in turn impacts on us.
Trapped in the netting is a message to us all to protect our coastlines and seas from natural and human intervention and to limit further degradation from our own consumption.
Good communication was essential from such a remote location and Marconi tested his first wireless communication form here. I’m experimenting with ways to represent morse code and echoes by reflecting the surroundings and the sunlight through the buildings.
Experimenting with beach finds
I’ve been amazed at how many beach shoes have turned up; each missing shoe must surely tell a story?
Can you think of one?
Joy Merron will be using found ocean plastics, gathered from beach clean ups, connecting to mirrored, white and clear broken surfaces to form an engulfing ‘wave’ to represent the power of the climate and the impact of humans on the environment.Brean beach clean up debris…leave no trace?
Dazzle ships are amazing pieces of floating art, used to confuse submarine captains when they were targeting them. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-27824910. This idea of communication may well find its way into my work.
I’ve taken this tangled mess and tamed it, now looking at ways to use it…..
