Lydia is a fibre artist living and working in rural Somerset. The county and the wool medium itself inform the creative process and theme with an emphasis on wildlife, landscape and man’s influence on them both.
In her small pieces, Lydia needle felts into vintage tins and containers. With these, she aims to capture quiet, fleeting moments so often missed as we pass by, or those elusive creatures of the countryside, creating pocket-sized vignettes in detail.
Her larger works are concerned with the British coast. Using reclaimed materials, beach comb finds and combining them with organic materials such as wool and wood, she aims to emphasise the legacy of man’s interaction upon the sea.
